It’s almost the Fourth of July! Independence Day commemorates the day that the United States declared themselves no longer under the rule of Britain. It is a day where people celebrate their love of their country, watch fireworks, and hopefully get to take a day or two off of work. Because the Fourth falls on a Thursday this year, many people will be enjoying a long-weekend that will kick off with special events happening on the Fourth.

Participate In The FireKracker 5K

If waking up at dawn and running five kilometers sounds like your idea of fun, then you won’t want to miss this patriotic event. This event is perfect for the entire family and you are free to walk, jog, or run during this event. This 5K is an awesome way to get a healthy start to your Fourth of July weekend and spend some time breathing in the early morning air.

Watch The Fourth Of July Parade

This annual parade begins at 10:00am and will travel west on Mountain Avenue between Meldrum and Jackson Avenue. Make sure to grab a good spot if you’ll be spectating or wear your best red, white, and blue outfit if you’ll be participating! If you want to avoid the hectic Old Town parking scene, we recommend you use public transportation or take an Uber or Lyft to the event. Don’t forget to bring some water and wear comfortable shoes as you might find yourself standing for quite a bit.

Visit The Avery House

One of the many historic places in Fort Collins, the Avery House is a 140-year-old home located in Old Town. Every year, the Avery House throws their Old-Fashioned Fourth of July bash. This event will include live music, Victorian-era games, arts and crafts, opportunities to dress up like you’re from the 1800s, and the ability to tour the historic Avery House.

Watch Fireworks At City Park

The City of Fort Collins puts on a yearly fireworks show at City Park with live music from the Fort Collins Symphony and other musical acts. Fireworks will begin around 9:30 in the evening if the weather permits, but you should plan on arriving early to get a good spot. This is a great opportunity to get together with family and friends and experience the joy of watching fireworks together. Best of all, it’s just a few blocks away from your Fort Collins apartment!

Continue Your Long Weekend With…

Just because the fireworks are over, doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. If you’ll be using your Fort Collins apartment as a homebase while you pack as much fun as possible into your long weekend, then consider some of the ideas below!

Camping

Spend a night away from your apartment and sleep under the stars at one of the local camping spots in or near Fort Collins. You might even get to see some lingering firework displays while you’re lounging in a hammock.

Watching A Drive-In Movie

Fort Collins is lucky to have a drive-in movie theater and you should definitely try to make it to a show this weekend! Located on Overland Trail and just a few minutes away from our apartment complex, the Holiday Twin Drive-In is a Fort Collins landmark. Bring a frisbee to toss around or some board games to play while you wait for the sun to set and the movie to start. You can bring snacks, but we recommend helping support the drive-in by purchasing food at their snack bar.

Spending Time In The Water

Whether you want to hop in the pool at your Fort Collins apartments, head to Horsetooth Reservoir, or go tubing in the Poudre River, you can easily find some water to relax in this weekend! Because of the holiday weekend, our pool might get a little crowded as families enjoy the summer sun. Thankfully, though, you can enjoy our saltwater pool any day of the week as a tenant of our apartment complex! Make sure to put on some sunscreen, stay hydrated, and have a safe time in the water.

Grilling Up Some Food

Our Fort Collins apartment complex has barbecue grills and picnic areas available for tenant use. Invite some friends over for burgers and hot dogs and spend time enjoying the warm summer weather. Make sure to hit the grocery store early as they tend to run low on essential grilling foods over holiday weekends.

Enjoy The Fourth At Stone Creek Apartments In Fort Collins!

We love seeing our tenants enjoying the sunshine at our apartment complex. We are so lucky to live in a city where there is always something to do and we hope you get out and enjoy the *hopefully* nice weather this weekend. If you have any questions about using our apartment amenities over the weekend, just stop by the front office!

From your Fort Collins apartment complex, we wish you all a very safe and happy Fourth of July!
