Being able to share an apartment with a friend is one of the best living situations that you could find yourself in. If you and your friend will be moving into Stone Creek Apartments soon, there are a few things that you should make sure to discuss in advance. Our team wants to ensure that your time in Fort Collins and at our apartment complex is absolutely fantastic, which is why we have compiled a list of things to cover with your roommate before you move in together.

Who is Bringing What

Moving is a hassle all on its own, but when you’re moving in with a roommate there needs to be a little bit more communication and organization. In order to make sure that you’re not both bringing the same items, it’s always good to set aside some time to talk about who is going to bring what. We suggest starting by creating a list of must-have items that you need in the house. Once you have the list, work your way down and figure out if either of you has the item and, if both of you have it, who will be bringing it.

One of the biggest struggles of living with a roommate is that your schedule will inevitably be different. At times, if your schedules aren’t close enough, living with one another can be difficult. Whether your schedules are similar or complete opposites, what your daily routine will look like is something you should talk about in advance. Whether there are certain days dedicated to studying, mornings where you will need to get up early for work, or something of the like, it’s always good to lay these expectations out on the table before you move in together.

Set Up the Bills

As roommates, one of the things that you’re going to have to do is figure out bills. While rent is easy to set up in your own name and pay on your own, determining the different utilities and services that you want to include in your apartment is a must. Of course, gas and electric are going to be a necessity, but figuring out whose name is going to be on the account and getting them set up is something you should do together.

Aside from your essential utilities, additional luxuries like WiFi and cable are services that you may want to have in your apartment. In that case, you and your roommate will have to determine which provider you’d like to use, whose name the account will be in, and how the bills will be handled.
